Linda Jo Nazarenus

Inspired by road trips through the Western United States, Nazarenus gives us dramatic landscapes with single birds, rabbits, or other creatures that remind us of the power of nature and the passage of time. Working in a realist manner, Nazarenus focuses on places that once thrived with activity but are now bereft of the human presence, having been reclaimed by nature. She emphasizes the temporal quality of our existence in contrast to the powerful continuity of nature.

Linda Jo Nazarenus is a Seattle artist who majored in art history and Scandinavian studies at the University of Washington. There she developed an interest in Northern European painting. She writes, "What I see is not a realistic depiction of nature, but rather one that is infused with an otherworldly, indescribable universal quality-a timeless mixture of religiosity, mysticism and devotion to nature with its inherent mysterious and spiritual aspects."
